Norman BEBBINGTON Ledburys answer to Arkwright with his brown coat. Anyone remember him riding his Orange Scooter he used to leave it up the alley on the right when he was at the shop. I remember mother having her weekly shop off Norman all tied up with string in a cardboard box and delivered on the shop bike...CP

Another lovely old ledbury character...CP

We used to go in there every Saturday, his daughter was either at Chapmans or Ledbury Preserves - I worked at both and can't remember which - Christine...ED

Christine worked at Ledbury Preserves - both her and her sister I see regularly in Ledbury...HJ

I always remember those big bins in there the huge metal ones full of dog biscuits!...LJ

What I remember best, about Bebbington's was the smell. A rich mixture of smoked bacon, coffee roasting and dry dog biscuits. You don't get that in Tesco's!...NM

Thing I remember about Normans was all those beautiful draws behind the counter I bet they were all ripped out and scrapped when he finished. He used to have a stepladder to get to the higher ones...CP

Used to amaze me as a kid how Norman knew what was in all those drawers...CP

My one outstanding memory of Bebbingtons when I was a kid is Nesquick. It used to be displayed on one of those shelves and I always harped for it when we went in there but i think it was to expensive for mother back then. How times have changed....CP

I can see stewed steak and Birds Custard on the shelf! Tinned Marrowfat Peas and Ryvita..JE

Camp coffee on the counter...CP

Mum had all her groceries every week from Norman it all arrived on the shop bike down the Terrace in a cardboard box tied up with string...CP

Remember Bebbingtons so well...SP

The lady who worked with Norman was a Miss SMITH I think she lived at Wellington Heath, it is a lovely photo...JJ

Couldn't remember his face only his overall!!...CE

Miss SMITH, she always had a lovely garden, mum used to get sweet peas from her...CT

My aunty Joyce WEAVER used to shop in there and get it delivered to Newbury Park, can remember going in there with her...AB

Can anyone remember the cat in the window?...JJ

Can remember going in this shop, remember two girls Lorna and Christine, his sisters I think...RS

Norman was Lorna and Christine's uncle...JJ

The BEBBINGTON sisters, Lorna and Christine, still live in Ledbury...PW

[Ledbury Reporter] The Reporter now has Archive photographs for the years 2005 - 2009 which you can view and order. Select a year then make sure Ledbury is the keyword entered before pressing GO. I have spent many an hour in the Ledbury Library looking through the old Reporters which are on microfiche. Support this great local paper.
